Schmitz attends legislative conference
Rep. Sue Schmitz recently participated in the 51st annual Legislative Work Conference of the Southern Regional Education Board.
"This conference gave me the opportunity to meet with legislators from the 16 states that are part of the SREB compact," Schmitz said. "We talk about vital subjects such as the new goals for education for the South, raising achievement for all students and distance education. We also hear firsthand what works in successful education reform from across the region and nation."
Nearly 100 legislators attended the meeting. Schmitz said Alabama has shown progress and laid the necessary foundation, but a lot of work remains to build the education system deserved.
Other topics addressed at the meeting included improving principals, testing and accountability, quality of summer school and technology issues in colleges and schools.
