Calhoun AmeriCorps program takes applications
The Calhoun Community College AmeriCorps Program is currently accepting applications for prospective members for the 2002-2003-program year, which will begin on Oct. 1.
The application deadline is Sept. 12, 2002. The CAP is a literacy program that mentors and empowers students in grades K-5 by improving reading skills, fostering a love for literature and increasing parental involvement in the learning process.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 17 years of age, have received a high school diploma or GED, have met the task-related eligibility requirements established for the program and are willing to commit one year to the program. Individuals selected as CAP members will receive a small monthly living allowance for his work and an educational voucher of $4,725 applicable to postsecondary education at the conclusion of a year of service. Insurance and childcare are also provided to qualified members. Spanish-speaking persons are strongly encouraged to apply
