The Madison Police Department has been given a $357,240 grant to hire three new full-time police officers to work in the city's schools.
The grant was announced from the office of U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer. The grant was awarded through the Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services In School's Program.
The grant will be used to pay for the salary and benefits of each new sworn officer in the school over the next three years.
Madison Police Chief Dan Busken said a meeting would be held soon with the Madison City Schools to determine which school will receive an officer and how the program will be implemented.
