In an effort to secure both state and federal funds, the city of Madison is seeking a lobbyist in Montgomery and Washington.
Four lobbying firms interested in representing Madison have been interviewed.
An in-house city employee has already been trained to seek grant funds for various projects. Mayor Wells said a lobbyist in Montgomery and Washington will help in acquiring the needed funds for operating expenses.
The four lobbying firms interviewed by the Madison City Council are Birmingham-based Balch &Bingham law firm; Huntsville-based Jyles Machen; Washington-based Van Scoyoc Associates Inc. and the Birmingham-based law firm of Arant, Rose &White. The two Birmingham-based law firms have offices in Huntsville.
The list will be narrowed to two firms before a second round of interviews is conducted by the city council.
Approximately $70,000 in the city's budget can be used to hire a lobbyist.
