Knights of Columbus to hold Tootsie Roll drive

By Staff
Staff reports
Madison County Record
The Madison chapter of the Knights of Columbus will conduct its annual Tootsie Roll fundraiser on the weekend of Oct. 12-14.
Members of the chapter will be stationed in front of the Wal-Marts in Madison and Huntsville, Madison Lowe's, Kroger and Bruno's. They will be wearing bright red and yellow aprons and handing out Tootsie Rolls to everyone passing by.
The Knights of Columbus, a national fraternal men's organization, has long adopted the mentally and physically disabled as a special project for concern and assistance. In Alabama during the past 24 years, the Knights of Columbus have raised more than $3 million. 100 percent of the monies raised are provided to the schools and centers that serve this special population.
On the local level, the Madison chapter raised more than $8,100. Schools in Madison County with programs for the learning disabled presented wish lists to the Knights to show how they would use the donations. In the past, the money has gone for materials that can be re-used, audio and visual supplies, dexterity development tools, flash cards, and other permanent learning tools.
On the statewide level, the Knights of Columbus have purchased several passenger vans for the Association of Retarded Citizens.
