It will be a day of good family fun, food, entertainment and singing for everyone, as St. John's Catholic School will have its Crusader Fest this Saturday at the school campus on Hughes Road.
A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26.
A walk-a-thon will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. to start the day of festivities. The main events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to LuAnne Johnson, chairperson for the event, the purpose of Crusader Fest is to raise funds for the school's Script's program – the school's primary source of operating purchases.
Participants in the event include the St. John's PTO, the event's main sponsor, the BETA Club, student government, the Crusader Club.
"When the school first opened, we had a small Family Fest with different activities held in the classrooms. We were small and it was a fun night for the kids as well as a fundraiser for the school," Johnson said.
Johnson said as the school grew, the event slipped by the wayside to other events and activities.
"We haven't had a Crusader Fest for three years now," Johnson said. "We've kind of resurrected the event and have combined it with the area's Catholic Schools Family Fest.
The festival will include inflatable games, slides, a dunking booth, and a mid-way with games from each class with various skill levels.
Johnson said concession stands with all the good carnival foods will be available and the Knights of Columbus will sell shaved ice. A cakewalk will also be held during the day and Bingo will be played.
"We will have entertainment from the cheerleaders, our children's choir, musicians from the church, scenes from our new fine arts class and karaoke."
During the festival, a book fair will be held at the same time.
"New this year will be a Crusader Market featuring more than 30 booths that will have crafts and small businesses representatives," Johnson said. "This will be held in the gymnasium. We really want this to be a big community attraction."
There are no admission costs and tickets are 25 cents for all the events and games. Costs for the events will vary.
"It's going to be a lot of fun for everyone and we are really looking forward to this," Johnson said. "Families can come to the school and enjoy a wide variety of activities and things to do."
