Williams International announces new jet engine facility at airport
Williams International, a global leader in the development and manufacture of small gas turbine engines, will build a new $268 million facility on 50 acres at Jetplex Industrial Park at Huntsville International Airport.
The first phase of the multi-year, ongoing project will result in an initial investment of $14 million, the construction of a 120,000 square foot manufacturing facility and the creation of 81 jobs by 2004. Williams International plans to invest a total of $268 million to create more than 700 new jobs by 2009.
Williams International is a premiere aerospace engine manufacturer. The company's Huntsville facility will serve as a maintenance, repair and overhaul center for general aviation aircraft. Employees will manufacture parts and components for small gas turbine engines, resulting in a new generation of lighter, lower-cost jet airplanes that will be faster, quieter, more comfortable and have a longer range than current jet aircraft.
Grant awarded for recycling
Gov. Don Siegelman has awarded a $10,000 grant to encourage Madison County residents to conserve energy and protect the environment through recycling.
The grant will be used to assist the county's recycling efforts. Local matching funds of $2,000 have been committed to the project. Funding from the grant will extend Madison County's recycling program to more than 70,000 households this year.
