Alabama legislators that represent the city of Madison were recently appointed to key committees in the Alabama House and Senate.
Sen. Tom Butler, a long-time senator from Madison, was named to the following committees: garniture; banking and insurance; education budget; government affairs; and small business and economic development.
Sen. Tommy Ed Roberts of Hartselle will serve on: business and labor; constitution, campaign finance, and electronics; government affairs; industrial development and recruitment; and the rules committee.
State Rep. Mike Balland, a former state trooper and a retired agent with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, will serve on the public safety committee; county and municipal government, and will serve in a leadership role on the newly created homeland security subcommittee.
State Rep. Ray Garner was able to land a position on the Education and Finance Appropriations Committee. Garner, an administrator with The University of Alabama in Huntsville, has also served as a trustee for several Madison County schools. He will have a voice in the state's $4 billion annual education budget.
Garner was also appointed to the interim joint budget committee as well as the Travel and Tourism Committee.
