Track meet set for May 16 Bob Jones High School track and field team is hosting the first Elementary Extreme track meet, to be held Friday, May 16 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the BJHS track complex. The track meet is open to all kindergarten through sixth grade students, with a separate girls and boys division for each grade group.
Scheduled events include: 100, 200 and 440 meter dashes; 800 and 1600 meter runs; long jump; high jump; shot put and discus. Ribbons and trophies will be awarded to winners.
There will be a $5 fee to enter up to five events. Proceeds will go toward this and other BJHS track and field activities.

Valley corridor summit planned A three-day summit will be conducted in regard to the Tennessee Valley Corridor, to be held May 27-29 at the Huntsville Von Braun Center. Fishing rodeo set for Saturday The 21st annual Madison County Commission Fishing Rodeo begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at Sharon Johnston Park. All you need is a fishing pole or rod and reel. Bait, hooks and corks will be available at no cost. Children from 5-10 years old may fish from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., and 11-15 year olds may fish from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Directions: Go east on I-565/72 to Moores Mill Road; go north on Moores Mill to Winchester Road; go east on Winchester for 10 miles and turn left onto Coleman Road; go to the third park gate on left.

Naval sea cadets sought Young Americans 13-17 years of age are invited to join the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets. Membership provides teenagers with a sampling of military life, with not obligation to join any branch of the armed forces. However, should a cadet decide to enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard, their cadet training may allow entry at an advanced pay grade.
