Student-led bands sought
The Madison Public Library is in search of student-led bands to perform as part of their summer programs for young adults. Students in grades 8-12 are encouraged to apply. All music types are needed: rock, alternative, acoustic, punk, R&B, classical, etc. Performances will be held after library hours and will be open to community teens. Beautify your landscape The City of Madison Beautification Board is looking to judge your landscaping to determine if it measures up for inclusion on the beautification honor roll. The board takes business landscaping as well as subdivision entrances into consideration. Landscape design and maintenance are the key elements, according to board spokesperson Jeanne Steadman. If you would like to participate, call 461-8938. Deadline in mid May and judging will take place during June. There will be an awards luncheon in August.
May 22 Seniors present play The Seasoned Performers will present "Ship Shape at Sea" on May 22 at 12:15 p.m. at the Madison Senior Center, 1282 Hughes Road. No admission is charged. For performance and ticket information, call 885-1813. All ages are invited.
The Seasoned Performers, organized in 1984, is an active group of senior volunteer actors who tour with their own one-act plays and reading programs to audiences of senior citizens and children in over 70 community sites each year.
Long-term care seminar Eden Brook, a senior living community, will conduct a long-term care seminar on Thursday, May 22 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at 4801 Whitesport Circle in Huntsville. The seminar is free, seating will be limited and light refreshments will be served. May 24 Walking tour Put on you walking shoes and participate in one of the seven consecutive Saturday walking tours of downtown Madison. Each Saturday from May 24-July5, a walking tour will begin at 10 a.m. starting at 16 Main Street. Madison Mayor Jan Wells will guide the first walk through the historic district. Each tour will last about an hour, according to Robin Brewer, of the Clay House Museum where the walking tours begin.
May 27 Soccer tryouts The Madison Soccer Club will hold tryouts from May 27 to June 3 at Dublin Park in Madison for soccer players ages seven to 17. Valley Futbol Club Tryouts for the Valley Futbol Club will be held May 27-June 1 at Palmer Park. Tryouts are for ages 9-18 for the 2003-2004 season. A makeup date will be held June 4. For more information, call 461-0964 or 464-3652.
June 9-13 Dyslexia program training session Greengate School will host a one-week dyslexia program training session on June 9-13 at Greengate School, 6600 Old Madison Pike behind Sherwood Baptist Church. Orton-Gillingham trainer Cathy Rommell will teach from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on these dates. Providence Women's Club of Madison The Providence Women's Club of Madison meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Heritage Plantation Clubhouse on County Line Road. The club, chartered in 2001, is a member of the General Federal of Women's Clubs and is dedicated to community service with interests in arts, education, conservation, international and public affairs, and home life.
Madison Art League The Madison Art League meets on the third Monday every month at 7 p.m. at the Clay House Museum on Main Street. The Madison Art League is a group of local artist dedicated to the promotion and education of creative and original work. Everyone is invited to come and network. Optimist Club The Optimist Club is dedicated to supporting the youth of Madison.
