Tuesday, June 10 at 6:15 p.m. – Watch the 1949 classic film "The Story of Seabiscuit," starring Shirley Temple and munch on popcorn, candy and soda. Put on your dimples, the best Shirley Temple look-alike will go home with a prize. Free and open to the public.
Tuesday, June 17 at 6:15 p.m. – Experienced writers of all genres are invited for an evening of writing practice, readings, critiques and fellowship with others in the writing community. Thursday, June 19 at 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. Madison Children's Theatre Visits!
A special sneak preview of the local production, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" will be performed by the Madison Children's Theatre. Arrive early for a seat.
Friday, June 20 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Mercer Mayer's Little Critter, the mischievous children's book character, will join us for a special story time. Don't forget your cameras.
Saturday, June 28 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. JK Rowling's new "Harry Potter &the Order of the Phoenix" was recently release and we're celebrating with trivia, games, and prizes. Come dressed as your favorite character for the costume contest. Pre-registration is mandatory. Thirty openings are available. The cost is $3 per person.

Story time theme June 1-7 Go Fly a Kite – We'll read books such as "Mike's Kite" and "When the Wind Stops." Stay and make a kite.
Story time theme June 8 – 14 Birds in Flight – Fly by the library this week as we read great stories about our feathered friends and to make a bird craft.
Story time theme June 15 – 21 Mythical Flyers – Fairies, dragons and Pegasus, all flyers from other realms. Join us as we learn about their legends by reading books like "The Firebird," by Jane Yolen and "The Knight and the Dragon," by Tommie dePaola.
Story time theme June 22 – 28 Bats, Bugs and Butterflies – This week's is all about creepy-crawlies with wings. Janelle Cannon's "Stellaluna" and Lois Ehlert's "Waiting for Wings" will be featured.
Through July 31 Sign Up for Summer Reading – Registration for Madison's Summer Reading Program has begun and participation extends through July. Pick up your summer reading log and some great books today, and earn prizes for the hours you read. Children of all ages can participate in the log, even babies.
Also, attend our great Summer of Flight events.
All ages can register at the Madison Circulation Desk through July 31. Record all time spent reading or being read to in the Books Ahoy Reading Log. For every two hours recorded in your reading log, you can choose a prize from the treasure chest. Those who log 50 or more hours of reading will receive a special honor. Visit the library for cool programs and special events all summer long. Time spent in story hour can count on your reading log.

Countywide book club Get Caught Reading is a countywide book club that aims to promote a sense of community and advocates the joys of reading by encouraging everyone to read the same book. This year's title is "Seabiscuit" by Laura Hillenbrand. Book discussions and other programs are planned in June at various locations across Madison County.
