Enrichment classes offered this summer

Parents wanting to get extra help or added enrichment for their elementary and middle school-aged students will have that opportunity through the Madison School System’s summer programs.
There are three separate programs: elementary, special education and middle school.
Summer academy for elementary school students will be held June 7-1- and July 14-17 from 8:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. at Columbia Elementary School.
This program will focus on math and reading remediation and is designed for students completing first through sixth grade. There is no cost to attend but students must be selected by their teacher and approved by the principal of their school.
Another series of summer academies are designed to provide enrichment in math, science, creative writing, cultural arts and technology. Those sessions will be held June 7-10 from 8:15 -11 a.m.; June 7-10 from 11:45 a.m.-2:30; June 14-17 from 8:15 and 11 a.m.; and June 14-17 from 11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Columbia Elementary School.
The classes are designed for students completing kindergarten through sixth grade. Cost for each session is $60. For information, call Kacy McKay at Mill Creek Elementary School at 774-4690.
There will be three programs offered for special education students. Developmental programs will be June 3-30 from 8 a.m.- noon at Mill Creek for pre-K through sixth grade students and the same dates and times for seventh through 12th grade students at Bob Jones High School. There is no cost for the programs. Students can attend full or part time.
A separate special education tutoring program will be June 3-30 from 8 a.m.- noon at Mill Creek. There is no cost for this program if a student qualifies for Extended School Year.
For middle school students, a school recovery program is set for June 1-28 from 8 a.m.- noon at Discovery Middle School. Fifth and sixth graders will be offered reading, language arts and mathematics programs.
Seventh and eighth grade classes include math and English.
An A-plus program for social studies and science will also be offered.
Registration is May 10-21 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. with late registration May 24-28 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Cost is $250 for Madison city students and $300 for students from other systems.

There will also be an English language learners class June 3-30 from 8 a.m.-noon. Classes will meet Mondays – Thursdays. The classes are designed for students entering kindergarten.
