Soccer-filled weekend on tap for the city

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was no soccer.

But on July 29-31, there will be plenty of soccer in Madison, as the National Premier Soccer League╒s Final Four and Soccer Wars will be held at Madison City Schools Stadium.

Soccer Wars, an annual festival hosted by the Rocket City United, began Thursday, July 29, it includes an adult 6v6 tournament, scouting combines for aspiring professional players, games skill competitions, music, vendors, food and fun.

The Soccer Wars festival will culminate with a parade Saturday at 5 p.m.

The NPSL Final Four also got started Thursday, with FC Sonic Lehigh Valley (10-1-1) taking on Sacramento Gold (7-1-2) in one semifinal match and Chattanooga FC taking on the Madison (Wis.) 56ers in the other semifinal match-up.

Results were not available as of press time.

The tournament will continue Friday, July 30, as the loser of each semifinal match will face off in the consolation match at 5:30 p.m.

The championship match will take place Saturday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m.

All games will be held at Madison City Schools Stadium located at 211 Celtic Drive.
