MA routes Randolph, Westminster

HUNTSVILLE — Madison Academy outscored its opponents 31-0 during a half of football Aug. 20, as the Mustangs shut out Randolph, 21-0, and Westminster, 10-0, during a preseason jamboree at Westminster.

The Mustang offense and defense was nearly perfect in the opening quarter versus Randolph.

Madison forced Randolph to punt on the opening possession, and then Mustang quarterback Joe Dobson connected with receiver Kam Jackson for a 32-yard touchdown pass to put Madison up 7-0 following Bennett Smith’s extra-point kick.

After forcing Randolph to punt again on the ensuing possession, running back Khyle Jackson increased the lead with an 11-yard touchdown run.

The Mustangs forced Randolph to punt for the third time of the quarter with less than 2 minutes to go before Dobson connected with Jackson for the second time of the game, this time from 56 yards out, to seal the victory.

In the second game, Madison was stopped on a fourth-and-10 on the opening possession, but the Mustangs returned the favor by stopping Westminster on fourth-and-4 on the ensuing possession.

Smith gave the Mustangs their first points of the quarter on a 31-yard field goal, and then Chris Clouser connected with Jackson from 37 yards out for his third touchdown of the night to close out all scoring.

Madison head coach Eric Cohu said he was pleased with the way his offense and defense played, but added his team must get in better condition and limit their mistakes before the regular-season opener Aug. 27.

“We’ve got to get used to playing four quarters of football because, next week, we play a fast and good football team in North Jackson.”
