My family and I have never lived in a more patriotic community than Madison.

It is almost impossible to not meet a neighbor, a church member, a civic club member or a co-worker who has not served our country.

Our friends from Sunday school, Dwayne and Leila Moorehouse, both have served in the Army. Dwayne Moorehouse is still active in the U.S. Army Reserves today.

When the Morehouses are not giving their time to the Army and their family, they are helping our community and praying for the troops who continue to serve today.

I have found there are many families who are similar to the Morehouses in Madison.

A friend, a Rotary Club of Madison member and the Madison Chief of Police, Larry Muncey is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserves. This man is one who checks all of the boxes when it comes to a servant’s heart.

Chief Muncey is always proud of the Madison Police Department and the many brave men and women who keep our community safe.  He is quick to redirect any praise to those men and woman who he works with daily.

We are blessed to have Larry Muncey as our police chief in Madison.

Another friend, Wes Plemons, owner of The Mail Box Store in Madison, has served three tours in Vietnam as a U.S. Army Green Beret. Plemons served a total of 21 years in the Army. He is one of the most courageous people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

It is humbling to live in this city and to call a few of its veterans friends. It is very easy to find service men and women to thank in Madison.

The Madison Record and Madison County Record works to honor our community’s veterans by publishing their stories in the newspaper in our “Veteran of the Week” feature.
