Educators, students care about community

From The Publisher

Madison is a community that truly cares about our children’s education and their character.  I am confident that the City of Madison schools can compete with any school nationally and globally in academics and athletics, but our schools are second to none when it comes to giving back.
Dr. Dee Fowler, superintendent of education for Madison City Schools, is a true asset to this community and is a proven leader.
Dr. Fowler was one of the first key community leaders I met once arriving in Madison. He was very approachable and I immediately could sense a true passion for the job and for community service.
Dr. Fowler’s faculty and staff are first rate, too. Madison City Schools Public Relations Manager John Peck is quick to share the many wonderful accomplishments of the students, faculty and staff.  Peck works hard to keep up with the outstanding deeds of each school.
As I continue to read weekly of the many accolades each school receives, it’s the student-initiated charitable programs that catch my attention mostly. It is gratifying to see young people evolving into community-minded citizens.
Madison students dream bigger than what they can do for themselves, but what they can do for others.
Madison students just completed their canned food drive for Christmas Charities Year Round. They even competed with each other to see which school could do the most.
Their annual campaign for St. Jude Children’s Hospital generated thousands of dollars. This campaign is very close to their hearts due to current or past Madison students needing St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital services.
These students’ efforts, along with countless others, make our community stronger. It reminds us all we can do more for others no matter our age or education level.
The Madison Record and Madison County Record would like to recognize all of the tremendous work that goes into giving back to our community.
Please share these stories with us. It will be our pleasure to publish them.
