Buckhorn graduate Chance Wilson dead at 25

MADISON COUNTY- Buckhorn graduate Chance Wilson who was owner and operator of Empire Bail Bond in Madison County was found dead in his car outside his office late Friday night, according to his mother Cathy Lacy Wilson. He was found by his father, Stan. He was unresponsive and many attempts to revive him failed.

Wilson played football at Buckhorn and signed a scholarship with Alabama A&M where he played from 2009-2012 as a a punter and kicker. Among his accomplishments he was named preseason All-SWAC 2nd Team Specialist and won the Phillip Steele All-SWAC 2nd team Specialist. In 2010 he was 8-11 in field goals and 27-27 in extra points. He also had 58 punts for over 2,000 yards. In 2011 he rewrote the A&M record books with a 49 yard fields goal, the longest of his career.

Alabama A&M issued a statement Monday. “We are saddened of the passing of Chance Wilson. An Alumnus and former football student athlete at Alabama A&M University. Chance excelled in the classroom and on the field of competition. It is tragic to lose someone so young with their future still ahead of them. We extend our condolences to Chance’s family and ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”

A facebook post by his mother Cathy Lacy Wilson stated “Many questions are unanswered and will be for several months. Chance’s heart stopped abruptly and the reasons why are unknown. It was not intentional…it was a tragic accident.”
