Horace Nunley Strong III August 28, 1939 – August 22, 2015

Horace Nunley Strong, III, 75, from the Monrovia Community in Western Madison County passed away early Saturday, August 22, 2015, after a brief illness. Mr. Strong was born August 28, 1939 to Horace Nunley Strong, Jr. and Louise McCrary Strong. Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 30 years, Judy Vaughn Strong, who passed away in 1991. Mr. Strong graduated from Monrovia High School in 1957. He ran Strong’s Shop Ezy in the Monrovia Community for 35 years, and Strong Tours from 1992 until his death. Horace was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Monrovia, and was a veteran of the Alabama National Guard. He was a founding member and chief of the Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years. He drove a school bus for Madison County Schools for many years; beginning in 1955 and culminating in 2002. A charter member of the Monrovia Men’s Club and the Monrovia Parks and Recreation Association, he was also a Monrovia School Trustee for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Judy Giles Strong; children, Kelly Strong Brewer and husband, Carlton, Horace “Nunley” Strong IV and wife, Janet, Dale Whitney Strong and wife, Laura, Kim Giles Guerin and husband, Eric, Donald Clay Giles and wife, Suzanne, and Kelly Giles Guthrie and husband, Scott; sister, Myrna Strong Ford; grandchildren, Meredith Brewer, John Brewer, Cara Strong, Quinn Strong, Whitney Strong, Harrison Strong, Matt Guerin, Courtney Guerin Brown and husband, Wes, Jacob Guerin, Kirsten Giles, Callie Giles, Nathan Giles, Rachel Guthrie, and Anna Guthrie; and great-grandson, Grant Hose. Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Monrovia. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, at the church with burial following in Mt.
