MADISON- Athletics came rather naturally for Taylor Weddington growing up in Madison where she took part in softball, volleyball and track before she made the decision to concentrate on softball. Her choice has paid off as she recently signed an athletic scholarship to play softball for Columbia State Community College located in Columbia, Tenn. serving a nine county area of Middle Tennessee.

Weddington said she plans on studying special education. “Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher so I asked a couple of my current teachers if they thought I could be a teacher in the area of special education, so I tried it and liked it,” added Weddington of Bob Jones High.

The 5-foot-3, 230-pound Weddington plays infield and outfield for the Patriots. In her three years on the squad she has played in 121 games with 273 at bats, 71 hits, 56 RBIs with a .260 batting average.

“Taylor has worked extremely hard for this opportunity and I’m very proud of her as she is one of the best kids and teammates I’ve coached,” said Whitney Deaver head coach of Bob Jones. “I know she’ll be a tremendous player and student at Columbia State.”

Weddington has suffered from a mild form of ADHD and failed second grade due to her lack of having a long attention span. “My mom said God had a plan for me and I’ve worked hard through the ADHD to get to where I am now,” said Weddington. “I’m currently going through a school process of IBP (Individual Base Plan) put together by my teachers and parents.”

Weddington is the daughter of Darnea and Lou Weddington and has a 3.5 grade point average. She said she’s looking forward to her senior season of play with the Patriots and expects to have an outstanding season.
