MADISON- The Madison Academy Mustangs went through round two of scholarship signings this week with four more athletes making their choices of colleges to attend through both athletic and academic scholarships. The signings came on the heels of National Signing Day last week where one additional scholarship signing took place at the Class 4A private school.

Dejon Fletcher signed to play soccer for Auburn University-Montgomery where she accepted a mix of athletic and academic scholarships. The school’s team captain also played basketball and volleyball for the Lady Mustangs while earning All-State honors in soccer and additional accolades in all three sports. She began lettering in athletics at Madison Academy in the seventh grade.

“AUM is an amazing school with several major options, a great soccer program and beautiful campus,” said Fletcher. “I know AUM will further help me to be the best student-athlete that I can be. I am so excited and looking forward to joining AUM’s team later this year.”

Three Mustang football players decided on their school of choice and signed on the scholarship offerings.

Jaylen Brackett, 5-foot-11, 240-pound running back-linebacker signed with the University of North Alabama (UNA) where he is expected to play linebacker or defensive end for the Lions. The recipient of a full athletic ride, Brackett was First Team All-State and Defensive Region Player of the Year. The 7-4 Mustangs allowed just 14 points per game, mainly behind the all-star play of Brackett.

The son of Arthur and Sheila Brackett chose the school based in nearby Florence over the likes Appalachian State, Tulane, Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Jacksonville State and Troy.

Wide receiver Tyler Greene, 6-1, 160, chose the University of the Cumberlands Patriots located in Williamsburg, KY. The NAIA school offered Greene a partial athletic-academic scholarship. He helped lead the Mustangs to a 7-4 record last season where the squad scored at a rate of 31 points per game. The second team All-State selection was also a member of the state champion 4×200 relay track squad from 2017.

“I chose Cumberlands because I really liked the Christian environment and coaching staff,” said Greene, son of William and Mychelle Greene. “I really enjoyed my three years at Madison Academy as the coaching staff has guided me to be a better athlete and a better person outside of football.”

Culver-Stockton College of Canton, MO picked up the talents of Kris Brookins, a 6-foot, 245-pound offensive and defensive lineman for the Mustangs. The son of George Keith and Valerie Brookins played four years at Madison Academy and was recruited for his play at defensive line. Brookins said of his time at Madison Academy, “The program has shown me who I truly am and helped me become more mature, so I can be successful and start a path of greatness for myself. I like the family atmosphere at Culver-Stockton and how serious the school is about academics.”
