Mustangs wrap up region play with win over Arab

MADISON – Avery Seaton passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as Madison Academy beat Arab 38-14 in their Class 5A Region 8 finale.

The Mustangs (8-1, 7-0) have won eight straight. They will host Alexandria on Nov. 9 in the first round of the playoffs. Madison Academy closes out the regular season on Friday against Brooks.

Madison Academy entered the Arab game with several players out with injuries and that showed as they struggled early, spotting the Knights a 7-3 lead in the first quarter before recapturing the lead at 10-7.

Then, early in the second quarter, Seaton hit Carson Kennamer on a 22-yard catch-and-run touchdown and a 17-7 lead.

But the Knights came back to cut the Mustangs’ lead to 17-14.

However, Seaton found Slate Rucker for a 30-yard touchdown pass and a 24-14 lead with about 7 minutes left in the second quarter.

Seaton completed his third touchdown pass of the game late in the quarter. Kyle Minor pulled down the pass and raced 36 yards for the score and a 31-14 lead which the Mustangs carried into intermission.

The Mustangs’ defense stymied Arab the rest of the night and Seaton wrapped up the scoring with a six-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
