HUNTSVILLE – Turner Construction Company’s Huntsville office recently began renovation work at the 76,000-square-foot U.S. Army TMDE Activity’s Army Primary Standards Lab at Redstone Arsenal for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The facility is used for primary-level calibration and repair of Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) that the Army uses for its vehicles, weapons and equipment.

“As the agency responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Army and its military systems, this renovation is crucial for us,” said George Condoyiannis, chief of construction for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. “The renovation includes updating laboratory spaces to keep up with state-of-the-art, high-tech army equipment that have significant calibration needs.”

The $27.2 million renovation is taking place while the building remains occupied. Plans are in place to ensure minimal disruption while workers complete the project and the organization continues its mission simultaneously. All aspects of this project are carefully identified, including the need to meet vibration, sound and electromagnetic interference mitigation, as well as air temperature, humidity and flow regulations required for the Army’s calibration and testing needs.

“This project is an extension of an incredibly valued partnership between the U.S. Army Corps and Turner, and we are proud to play a part in the incredible work they do for our community and our country,” said Turner’s Southeast Federal Account Manager Tyce Hudson.

Turner has had a presence in North Alabama for more than 60 years and has completed many projects similar to the Army Primary Standard Lab renovation, including a collaboration center, visitor screen facility and evidence repository at the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC), Boeing Jetplex and Torch Technologies’ Freedom Center.

Turner is working with the architects and engineers at Atlanta-based HDR Architecture Inc. The project is expected to be completed by January 2021. No other information is available at this time.
