Beautification awards recognize best in landscaping in Madison
MADISON – Whether it’s a business, residential property, school, park or even a fire station, there is a certain amount of pride that comes with being in Madison. That sense of pride is on full display in the way the properties are landscaped – helping to complete one piece of the puzzle that makes Madison such a great place to live.
The hard work it takes to pull off a stunning landscape was recognized Thursday at the 2019 Madison Beautification Awards luncheon, hosted by the Madison Beautification and Tree Board.
“The Madison Beautification and Tree Board is one of the hardest-working volunteer boards for the City of Madison,” said Amber Braman, beautification board president, who led the ceremony at the Madison Public Library. “I can’t count the hours our team has worked together to distinguish the City of Madison as an inviting place to live, work and raise children.”
Braman said the Beautification Awards is one of the board’s biggest projects annually. The board facilitates several programs, such as the Arbor Day Poster Contest for Madison City School fifth-graders and the Pride of Madison Adopt-a-Mile Program.
The board sought nominations for the awards this spring, and properties were judged by a volunteer team from the Madison Gardeners of North Alabama.
Winners must have scored a 95 or better. An excellence rating is awarded to properties with a perfect score of 100. The honor roll award is given to a property that has maintained a consecutive five years in a row of winning.
For the Best in Show awards, the board selects one subdivision and one business property that show prideful effort through landscape endeavors by remaining clean and neat in appearance. “All aspects of the lawn were judged,” Braman said. “Mulched beds were required with a variety of colorful healthy annuals and perennials.”
Belmont Place received Best in Show, Excellence and Honor Roll awards in the residential division. The property was submitted by U.S. Lawns of Madison.
Hexagon received Best in Show and Excellence in the business division. The property was submitted by Landscape Workshop LLC.
