Second arrest made in February Hazel Green murder investigation

HUNTSVILLE – A second arrest has been made stemming from the shooting death of 35 year old Grant Binford of Hazel Green. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened on February 5, 2019 around 8:45pm. Deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Singletree Drive in Hazel Green and found Binford suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital and died approximately three weeks later.

On March 19, one of the suspects, 35-year-old Gregory Harris of Huntsville, was arrested in Louisiana with the help of the US Marshal Service. He was extradited back to Madison County and was booked into the jail.

Recently US Marshals located a second suspect, 29 year old Charles Varise of Huntsville. He was also extradited back to Madison County and booked into the jail.

Both men are charged with Murder and the case remains under investigation.

Sheriff Kevin Turner said, “Our investigators never gave up on this case and used all available resources to find both suspects. Our partnership with the US Marshal Service through the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force proved to be a valuable tool in this case”.
