Jets’ Zac Taylor Lone Area Selection For Alabama All-Star Football Team
MADISON- The roster has been selected for the 40-player Alabama All-Star Team that will face a similar team from Mississippi in the 33rd annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Game Dec. 14 in Hattiesburg, Miss. on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. The lone representative on the roster from the immediate North Alabama area is Zac Taylor of James Clemens.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman is a UAB commitment and is looking forward to playing in the spirited game, which features current high school seniors and is hosted by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA).
“I think it’s cool and a great honor to be chosen for the event as I’ve always heard good things about the All-Star Game,” said Taylor, who will sign with the UAB Blazers during early signed day on Dec. 19. “The All-Star Game is a great opportunity for me to show off my talents.”
The Alabama roster was selected through a rigorous process that began last winter and, according to AHSADCA President Jamie Lee, “The selection committee worked extremely hard to trim down the strong list of nominations to the 40 selected. The roster includes 26 players already committed to Division 1-A schools.”
“I feel I can do well in both run and pass blocking,” added Taylor. “I had 20 offers from colleges and narrowed it down to Florida Atlantic, Indiana and Southern Miss before deciding to go with UAB.”
Taylor was a First Team Class 7A All-State selection a year ago and is currently leading the charge on offense for the Jets who are currently 4-2 overall on the season, but more importantly a perfect 4-0 in Region 7. James Clemens has scored an average of 41 points per game on the season, mostly behind the offense led by the talented senior.
“I think we’re closer as a team than what we were after losing the first two games on our season schedule,” said Taylor. “This is the closest team I’ve even been on. We are like brothers. I feel the only team that can stop us, is us.”
Overall, Alabama leads the series 22-10 and since 2015 has been alternated yearly between the two states as hosts.
