Details of federal operation in area will be released next week, dozens arrested

NORTH ALABAMA – Federal authorities, including members of the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted an operation in north Alabama Wednesday that included arrests in Madison County.
Details of the charges and identities of those arrested have not been released, and officials said the U.S. attorney’s office will issue a news release next week.
The Madison Police Department played a role in the operation, which also involved other law enforcement agencies in North Alabama.
According to Madison Police Chief David Jernigan, the department has an agent working through the STAC drug task force that assisted the federal authorities. It is not known at this time if any of the suspects arrested are from Madison.
Reports Wednesday morning stated that over 40 people were arrested during the operation.
Newspartner WAAY 31 reported that an FBI spokesman, Paul Daymond, said the operation possibly could go into Southern Tennessee.
