Mustangs’ Jaden Langford Signs With Samford Bulldogs

MADISON- Madison Academy All-State basketball player Jaden Langford signed an athletic scholarship to play for the Samford Bulldogs located in nearby Birmingham.

“I love the coaching staff and the vibe I got from the team and the school,” said Langford of her choice to attend the Christian based school. “It’s seems to be the best fit for me and the best environment for me to grow in the areas of academics, athletics and spiritually.”

Langford has hit on 40-percent of her field goals, 36-percent from the 3-point range and 74-percent from the charity stripe in her career at Madison Academy. She has scored 1,787 points with 740 rebounds, 472 assists and an amazing 234 steals. She chose the Bulldogs over South Alabama, UT-Martin and Austin Peay and looks to quickly help the program in its play in NCAA Div. I and the Southern Conference.

The 5-foot-8 guard carries a 4.18 grade point average, which ranks her No. 9 in her senior class. She will pursue an education in the medical field with her sights set on possibly becoming a physician’s assistant. The daughter of Tellus and Yolanda Langford gives credit to much of her success on the basketball court and in the classroom to her parents. She also stated her choice of college was hers alone. “My parents gave me input, but let me take the lead and did not have a lot of influence on my decision,” she added.

The younger sister to Joshua Langford, current player for Michigan State and former five-time All-State selection for Madison Academy, Langford said her older brother gave her many words of wisdom during her recruiting experience.

“He told me to make the best decision for me in the long run especially in the areas I can grow,” said Langford. “He suggested I choose a school where my experiences will be more than just basketball.”

First playing organized basketball at age four with her brother and family cousins, Langford learned the important issues of the game from those early experiences and being the only girl in the family always had to be competitive to be good at the sport. Through the years she has always been compared to her older brother and has been proud of that fact, but knows once she hits the hardwood for the Lady Bulldogs she will have to secure her own place in the sport.

“I’m glad the recruiting portion of my basketball is over, but it’s been bitter sweet as I’m glad to be headed to the next level as I owe a lot of my success to the wonderful environment here at Madison Academy,” said Langford. “I’m playing well right now and our team is doing well, too.”
