Former Bob Jones Star Athlete Named Interim Athletic Director At Vanderbilt University

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Since 2016, Candice Storey Lee has overseen the day-to-day operations of the athletics department at Vanderbilt University as deputy athletics director. The former Bob Jones star basketball player has recently been named the interim Athletics Director replacing Malcom Turner who resigned after just over a year in the position.

A graduate of 1996 from Bob Jones, Storey Lee was an All-State player for the Lady Patriots and was named the Gatorade Alabama Girls Basketball Player of the Year in her senior year where she played for head coach June Seals. She was named the school’s Homecoming Queen and was an official School Ambassador.

She earned an athletic scholarship to Vanderbilt where she went on to be named team captain for the Lady Commodores’ team. She was a four-year letter winner and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in human and organizational development in 2000. She also earned her master’s degree in counseling and a doctorate in higher education administration. She played on four NCAA Tournament teams.

The former student-athlete for Vanderbilt is the school’s first female athletic director and has been a part of the school administration for 20 years. She has been recognized by numerous publications for her role in senior-level administration work at the Nashville-based University.

She is married to Sean Lee.

Kent Chambers, longtime coach and teacher at Bob Jones, fondly remembers having the super talented student-athlete among his classes.

“When I think of Candice I think first-class,” said Chambers. “Everyone loved her as she was a pleasure to be around.”
