#weareinthistogether – an uplifting stroll in Madison

Editor’s note: The following is a letter to the editor from Debbie Overcash. She and her husband, Madison City Councilman Tommy Overcash, reminds us that through these uncertain times there are many uplifting moments. Please share your encouraging, uplifting moments with us too. You can email us at news@themadisonrecord.com.

Feeling down, I decided to take a walk in my beautiful neighborhood, Ashley Estates. Tommy and I are blessed to have had the best neighbors for over 28 years, 35 years in Madison.  Our neighborhood is seeing an influx of beautiful young families; kids on bikes, laughing and splashing in backyards, catch in front yards, hellos, smiles and waves as we walk six-feet-plus from one another on this beautiful, warm, sunny Friday in March.

As I walked, I saw evidence of those amazing young family’s huge hearts and resilience.  I also saw our wonderful “more seasoned” neighbors supporting one another and sending love and best wishes out to their neighbors.

The activities for our children and youth (and this old lady taking a walk) in these troubled times are easy and heart lifting.  “Chalk Your Walk” and “Going on a Bear Hunt” are just a few.  Pictures were taken on my short spin around the block.

All that to say #weareinthistogether #madisonstrong and I came in from that walk much better than when I left.

Thanks friends, stay safe, stay healthy,

Debbie O.
