James Clemens Ends Regular Season Cross Country

OAKVILLE, AL.- The 2020 regular season is now in the record books for the James Clemens cross country team as the Jets took to the 5K course in the Oakville Invitational held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville. The Jets took second place in both girls and boys competition in the 21-school races.

In boys, the Jets scored 47 points to first place Hewitt-Trussville which tallied 38 points. The Jets’ top three runners were separated by a mere one second with five Jets finishing among the Elite Top 15. The results were 6. Aidan Brinkley, 17:15; 7. Matthew Hill, 17:16; 8. Tyler Gohlich, 17:16; 9. Isaul Rubio Montano, 17:25.

In the girls race, the Lady Jets scored 45 points to fall just short of winner Hewitt-Trussville, which scored 29 points. The Lady Jets had five runners fall into the All-Elite Team top 15, including 4. Kayla Willett, 20:11; Kylie Gero, 20:31; 12. Emmy Mattingly, 21:20; 13. Sarah Vaughan, 21:23; 15; 15. Sydney  Freeman, 21:33.

The post-season Sectional Meet will be held Nov. 5, which just happens to be James Clemens’ head coach Drew Bell’s birthday. The Jets will send 10 each of the girls and boys team to the event with the girls’ squad ranked No. 1 and the boys No. 5 in Alabama. The AHSAA State Meet will be held Nov. 14 at Oakville Indian Mounds Park.
