A new campaign is aiming to make healthcare workers feel a little more loved for Valentine’s Day. The Alabama Hospital Association is trying to solicit valentines for hospital employees. Alabamians are being encouraged by the Association to visit www.alaha.org and learn about how they can provide words of encouragement and thanks to healthcare workers who continue to serve on the front lines fighting the pandemic.

“There’s no way to adequately express our gratitude to the men and women who have been working tirelessly since March to care for those affected by COVID-19,” said Don Williamson, M.D., president of the Alabama Hospital Association. “Their dedication, innovation and compassion for patients is truly inspiring. We need to continually remember them in our thoughts and prayers, and Valentine’s Day seems to be an appropriate time to show them our appreciation. We are hopeful that local civic groups, church groups, etc., will take time to participate in this recognition.”

According to the Association, many of the state’s scouting troops, both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, have committed to helping with the project. To assist citizens who wish to participate in this outreach, there are resources online at the above website to help in sending Valentines. Most of all, citizens are encouraged to write their own messages of thanks and support.

“Our hospitals have been overwhelmed not only by the virus, but also by local community support,” added Dr. Williamson. “They are very grateful for all of the food, blinking car lights and other expressions of kindness. We know the valentines will be meaningful as they enter the eleventh month of this pandemic.”
