State Track Meet- One Local State Champion

GULF SHORES- With an array of talent scattered across the four local high school track teams, high expectations were the talk among those programs heading into the AHSAA’s 98th State Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Gulf Shores for Classes 4-7A. Included in the bevy of schools participating were Bob Jones, James Clemens and Sparkman in Class 7A and Madison Academy in Class 4A.

When all was completed the four squads represented at the State Meet walked away with just five medal performances with Bob Jones capturing two events while James Clemens, Sparkman and Madison Academy taking home one medal each.

In Class 7A- Girls: triple jump- 2. Aaliyah Washington, 12, Bob Jones, 37-04.00; 4×100- 3. Sparkman, 47.70; Boys: shot put- 3. Jaylen Drake, 11, James Clemens, 51-03.50; high jump- 2. Cosey Scarebrook, 12, Bob Jones, 6-04.

In Class 4A- Boys: shot put- 1. John English, 12, Madison Academy, 50-07.

Additional elite performances from the State Meet included: Class 7A- Girls: 400m- 4. Alivia Urrutia, 7, Bob Jones, 57.52; 4×400- 4. Bob Jones, 4:02.98; pole vault- 4. Sydney Truesdail, 11, Bob Jones, 10-6; long jump- 4. Tramani Osley, 11, James Clemens, 16-10; 100m- 4. Janae Hilliard, 11, Sparkman, 12:22, 6. Amanda Davis, 12, Sparkman, 12:52; discus- 5. Nevaeh Neerhof, 12, Sparkman, 101-10. Boys: long jump- 4. Cosey Scarebrook, 12, Bob Jones, 22-2; 800m- 5. Dylan Dryer, 10, James Clemens, 4:25.81; high jump- 4. Keenan Walker, 11, James Clemens, 6-2; shot put- 4. Bobby Gray, 11, Sparkman, 49-11.25. Class 4A- Boys: discus- 4. John English, 12, Madison Academy, 137-5; javelin- 5. Noah Olberding, 12, Madison Academy, 149-4.
