City of Madison hires new city attorney

MADISON – The City of Madison appointed a new  city attorney Monday night. Brian Kilgore will work exclusively as in-house counsel to the city, providing legal services and advice to the city’s officials and employees.

Kilgore was a principal attorney for the city of Birmingham nearly ten years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) before earning his Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law in 2004. He was a Complex Litigation Specialist with York Risk Services in Birmingham from 2009 to 2012. Kilgore also served as an associate attorney with Gathings Law in Birmingham for 1.5 years, and was an assistant district attorney for Morgan County from 2005 to 2007, and was a legal intern for Jefferson County from 2003 to 2004.

“Living and working in the Madison community as the city attorney is a welcomed opportunity. I’ve called Alabama ‘home’ throughout my professional career, but I’m especially excited to plant my roots in Madison. I pledge to serve our council, mayor, employees and broader community with dignity and focus,” Kilgore said.

In 2015, Kilgore was one of the top three Birmingham lawyers nominated by the Jefferson County Judicial Commission for Circuit Judgeship out of 12 applicants. In 2016, he earned the title of “Top Five Government Attorney” from Birmingham Magazine.
