MADISON- The Bob Jones wrestling program posted another win over crosstown rival James Clemens during a special school-day time matchup at Bob Jones High. The final tally was Bob Jones 68 James Clemens 10.

“We we’re glad the students showed up to support and we were able to perform to the best of our ability,” said Tafri Alcime, winner of the 220-pound match against Timothy Coleman with a pin in just 42-seconds.

“It was a great atmosphere for our guys to wrestle in front of our school’s students and we were glad to be able to get a dominating win,” said Bob Jones head coach Matt Sweatman.

Held during the last period of the school day schedule, a jammed packed gymnasium was on hand to see the two city schools go head-to-head. The home crowd wasn’t disappointed. The host Patriots easily defeated the Jets in the 14-match format by winning 12-2 in matches. The breakdown had Bob Jones earning seven pins/falls and two decisions while James Clemens had one of each. Three matches were forfeited by the Jets due to weight certifications not available.

Proceeds from the event went to The Hope for Autumn Foundation which has become a leader in providing hope, assistance and options to area families battling childhood cancer. Over 500 children receive cancer treatment each year in Alabama and a family battling the disease can lose up to 40-percent of their household income while caring for their child. In a staggering fact, 84-percent of the children will be cured of their illness while 16-percent will not.

“A big thanks to Coach (Kevin) Pecor of James Clemens for bringing his guys over and wrestle us so we could donate all the proceeds to the Hope for Autumn Foundation,” added Sweatman. “Our team did well, but we have a lot of work to do, but it was a great start to our season.”

Alcime, ranked No. 2 in Alabama at 220, added, “We have to improve in a lot of areas, but we will continue to work on that this season.”

Of all the matches, the heavyweight match was the most memorable as Bob Jones senior Maddox Sunderman, ranked No. 2 in Alabama and has earned All-American status, defeated Tyler Gage in just eight seconds in one of the quickest pins/falls in recent memory in North Alabama.
