MCSO says deputies involved in shooting, Hazel Green man dead

HAZEL GREEN – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were involved in a shooting on Thursday night at approximately 11 p.m., in the 200 block of Dixon Road in Hazel Green.
“As a result of the shooting one person is dead and the involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation which is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation,” MCSO stated in a press release.
Officials said Madison County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling in the area of Joe Quick Rd. and Hwy. 231 when they were advised of gunshots being fired in the 200 block of Dixon Road. “The shots were allegedly stemming from a domestic situation outside of one of the houses on the block,” stated the press release. “Deputies made contact with Ray King, 50, of Hazel Green, who was armed. Deputies fired their weapons and King was struck.”
MCSO says deputies rendered first-aid but King died on the scene. His handgun was reportedly recovered from the scene.
The State Bureau of Investigation responded to conduct the investigation. The involved deputies were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and the findings of an internal Sheriff’s Office Shooting Review Board.
