Chargers welcome No. 12 West Georgia for three game series

HUNTSVILLE – The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team will play host to a three-game series this weekend at Charger Park against Gulf South Conference opponent No. 12 West Georgia. Game one of the series is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed up by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Admission for this week’s games – and to all regular season events at Charger Park – is free again this season courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers return home with a 15-13 overall record and a 6-6 GSC record after going 1-2 in a weekend series against Shorter, followed by a 5-3 midweek victory over West Alabama on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jackson Lindsey enters the weekend after batting .417 over the past four games with five hits, two RBI, and a double.

Senior Landon Ezzell is leading the Chargers at the plate for the season with a .422 batting average and is tied for first on the team with five home runs with a team-high 33 RBI. The Russellville, Alabama, native ranks third in the GSC in batting average and second in hits with 46.

UAH ranks third overall in team batting average in the GSC, boasting a .307 average, while ranking fourth in the league in hits with 269 total.

West Georgia stops in Huntsville with a 22-5 record overall and a 9-3 record in GSC play. The Wolves currently hold the league’s best batting average at .336 and the second best run-scoring offense with 225.

UWG is led at the plate by Anthony Calabro who is batting .469 on the year with 10 home runs and 36 RBI. Calabro leads the GSC in batting average, slugging percentage, and is tied for first in home runs. On the mound, the Wolves are led by Peyton Berry who owns a 1.63 ERA, surrendering just five earned runs in 27.2 innings pitched.

UAH holds an all-time record of 49-35 against West Georgia, with their last matchup going to the Chargers in a 4-3 game on April 16, 2022.

Following the weekend series against UWG, the Chargers will hit the road to visit Delta State next weekend for a three-game series.
