Dominic Edward Germain, 30, is charged with first-degree arson and two counts of attempted murder in connection with an Aug. 5 house fire. He will remain in the Limestone County Jail without bond pending further court action.

Aniah’s Law allows defendants charged with certain crimes, such as first-degree arson, to be held in jail without bond pending a pretrial detention hearing.

“As a matter of strategy today, after having discussed with Mr. Germain his options, we decided that he was going to be held in jail without a bond pending further action of the grand jury and the proceedings of circuit court,” explained Germain’s defense attorney, Tim Case.

“He does not say he’s guilty of anything whatsoever,” Case said. “In circuit court, we’ll address these issues and other issues as well.”

The alleged crime occurred in the 27000 block of Keeton Road in Harvest, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. They said Germain left the scene before deputies arrived. Two alleged victims, who were in a separate room when the fire started, were able to escape, according to LCSO.
