MADISON – Tammy Brunton, who has worked as a classroom teacher for numerous years, has accepted the position of Assistant Principal at Horizon Elementary School.

Brunton will work with Horizon Principal Demetria Freeman.

Brunton has compiled 14 years of career experience at Rainbow Elementary School, where she worked as a teacher and more recently in the Madison Aspiring Administrators’ Program or MAAP that Madison City Schools offers.

“I am thrilled to join Horizon Elementary School as the new Assistant Principal,” Brunton said. “My journey in education began at Rainbow Elementary School, where I had the privilege of teaching special education, fifth grade and third grade.”

“In 2022, I embraced a leadership path by becoming an aspiring administrator through the MAAP program at Rainbow,” Brunton said.

“I look forward to meeting everyone in the Horizon family. I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the teachers, staff, students and parents at Horizon Elementary,” she said.

“Together, we will foster each child’s academic and personal growth while ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment,” Brunton said. “I look forward to being a part of the Horizon family and contributing to our shared success.”

In one of her successes while working at Rainbow, Tammy Brunton and fellow teacher Rachel Eubanks organized the Rainbow Rockets Girls Running Club. This club’s objective was “to promote enthusiasm for running to fifth- and sixth-grade girls. Students interact with peers while developing physical fitness awareness and teamwork skills,” Alice Lessmann said. Lessmann’s daughter Leah, then in elementary school, joined the club. Currently, Alice Lessman is a member of Madison Board of Education.

Tammy and her husband Chris are parents of Millie and Thomas. “Millie is also very excited about becoming a student at Horizon. As a family, we love spending time outdoors and traveling. Personally, I find joy and balance in running,” Tammy said.

During a session of Rainbow Parent University, Brunton, who was a fifth-grade teacher at the time, had the formidable task of explaining the ways that Common Core relates to the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards.

By accepting her new job, Brunton is filling the vacancy left by Wendy Pharo, who is now serving as Principal at Madison Elementary School.
