HCCA presents ‘Aladdin Jr.’

HUNTSVILLE – The audience will experience a whole new world when Huntsville Community Chorus Association (HCCA) presents “Aladdin Jr.”

“We chose ‘Aladdin, Jr.’ because it’s well-loved and known by so many,” artistic stage director Micki Lighthall said. “We wanted a show that would involve as many children and youth as possible.” Disney requires that cast members are 18 years old or younger.

The troupe also is paying tribute to the late Robin William who appeared as Genie in the movie.

Set in Agrahbah, Arabia, “Aladdin Jr.” focuses on Princess Jasmine who must soon find a prince to marry. By chance, Jasmine and Aladdin met and fall in love. Unfortunately, Aladdin is a poor villager.

Wrong accused of stealing, Aladdin is vanquished to a cave, where he spots a lamp. A Genie appears and grants three wishes.

“A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” are featured songs.

Actors from Madison are Guerin Tidwell (Aladdin), Eboni Booker (Jasmine), Neelesh Manandher (Razoul), Nick Morris (Sultan), along with Katie Agent, Clara Choung, Bryson Mann, Kate McKay, Rachel Minjares, Carly Parker, Leah and John Purves, Eliese Roberts, Liam Robertson, Rebecca Seeman and Jillian Tippie.

Other actors are Marcus Gladney (Genie), Dylan Davis (Jafar), Bailey Grace Flynn (Iago),

“We’re all volunteers. We do this for our youth to have the theater experience and our love of theater,” Micki Lighthall said.

“Aladdin Jr.” will be presented at Thurber Arts Center at Randolph School, 4905 Garth Road in Huntsville. Showtimes are July 17-18 and 24-25 at 7 p.m.; July 18-19 and 25 at 3 p.m.; and July 19 at 6:30 p.m.
