MPD identify suspect in assault on officer Thanksgiving Day

HUNTSVILLE – Madison Police have identified Nicholas Demetra Pappas, 34 years old, of Huntsville, Alabama, as the suspect who resisted arrest, injuring an officer on Thanksgiving Day.

Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop of a motorcycle Thursday afternoon at Balch Road and Amhurst Place around 1:15 p.m.

When authorities ran the tag in showed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Cullman County. A scuffled took place between the officer and the person with the motorcycle, resulting in minor injuries for the officer.

Police said the suspect fled on foot and efforts were made to locate the suspect, but were unsuccessful. The officer was treated and released from the Madison Hospital Emergency Department the same day.

Major John Stringer with the Madison Police Department said Tuesday morning the Huntsville Police Department located Nicholas Pappas at approximately 6:15 a.m.

Stringer said Pappas is currently being held on charges with the Huntsville Police Department. He was arrested in Huntsville for receiving stolen property second degree, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking in stolen identities.

Madison Police detectives will be pursuing warrants for:

  • Assault in the Second Degree
  • Fleeing or Attempting to Elude

Additional charges are possible.
