NORMAL – Distinguished Concerts International of New York has invited the Alabama A&M University Choir to present a concert at Lincoln Center in New York City.

The concert date is April 12 at 7 p.m. in the center’s Alice Tully Hall.

The choir’s appearance marks the first time that the concert association has invited a historically black college or university, A&M interim director Dr. Horace Carney said.

Music professionals selected the A&M Choir after auditioning several choral groups. The choir has acquired superior ratings and standing ovations at performances nationwide.

After Lincoln Center, the choir will perform in Boston, Mass., on Palm Sunday, April 13. Alumna Evelyn Lee Jones is spearheading this concert.

The honor “requires a lot of rehearsing and preparation, as well as money,” Carney said.

Donations for the choir’s trip can be made to the Alabama A&M University Foundation (Acct. #486) or by visiting gofundme.com/47k9zg?pc=tw_f_m.
