HS Softball: Bob Jones beats Madison Academy

Bob Jones battled.

It wasn’t easy, but the Patriots won the battle with a 7-2 victory over cross-town Madison Academy on March 28.

“Madison Academy has a really good team,” said Bob Jones softball coach Kent Chambers. “Our girls played well. Our girls played very well.”

Briana Sullivan was the lead hitter for the Patriots with three hits.

Pitcher Haleigh Robinson also came up big for Bob Jones with six strikeouts and a double.

Mary Susan Mobely was the lead hitter for the Mustangs with a double and single.

Madison Academy scored both of their runs on a throwing error from third base during the first inning, and they would not score again.

“Our defense played well,” said Bronson Patterson, assistant varsity head coach and director of softball operations. “But, offensively we played horribly. We struggled. That’s the bottom line.”

The game was especially interesting for head coach Emily Young, who is in her second year coaching for Madison Academy, but is a former coach for Bob Jones.

“It’s good to see them,” Young said. “How they’ve come along and developed into varsity players.”

Chambers said Young’s presence was a factor for some of her former players.

“The girls wanted to play hard for her,” he said.
