Free food boxes available from Farmers to Families on Aug. 20

MADISON – Volunteers will distribute free boxes of food from “Farmers to Families” on Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at Madison City Schools Stadium.

The boxes will be available until noon or until supplies last. Families must pick up the food by noon to guarantee freshness.

To offer the food, Daystar Church has pursued a partnership with Farmers to Families, a faith-based coalition and food service. Daystar members chose the stadium as a place of distribution for the fresh food and are joining together with other churches across the southeastern United States to make the boxes available in local communities.

The food boxes are available to any family on a first-come, first-served basis. Families do not need to show any proof of need or identification.

Farmers to Families is a $4-billion provision of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act or CARES Act, the $2.2-trillion stimulus bill that the 116th U.S. Congress passed in March 2020 to ease economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the CARES act, the federal government is purchasing food from U.S. farmers and giving the items to families to confirm that the food does not go to waste and that families are helped during the pandemic.

Each food box contains perishable food products, such as pre-cooked chicken or pork, dairy products, assorted fruit and vegetables. The distribution on Aug. 20 is an extension of the farm food giveaway that was completed earlier this summer at Horizon Elementary School. During that distribution in June, Daystar Church was able to give out more than 8,000 boxes across North Alabama in association with Farmers to Families.

The stadium’s address is 211 Celtic Drive, next door to MCS Central Office.

For more information about the food distribution, email Chris Hopper, Daystar Church Outreach Director, at chrishopper@daystarchurch.tv or Pastor Eli Brooks at elibrooks@daystarchurch.tv.

Daystar Church’s address in Madison is 7855 Old Madison Pike. For more information about the congregation, call 256-737-0800 or email info@daystarchurch.tv.
