Classes open for women’s job corps

MADISON – Christian Women’s Job Corps of Madison County, Alabama is accepting applications for the fall 2017 semester.

Any woman who is 18 to 60 years old can register now for free classes. Women with all levels of education can enroll.

“Trying to get back in the workforce? Need to update your computer skills, resume or job search skills? The job corps offers free training for computers and career development available right here in Madison,” Susan Elder, Madison site coordinator, said.

Core classes are available in Bible study, career exploration, computer skills and money matters. Classes are available at four locations in Madison County:

* Heritage United Methodist Church — 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road in Madison. Classes will meet for 10 weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Orientation will be conducted on Aug. 30, with classes starting on Sept. 5. Application deadline is Aug. 11.

* Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church — 2115 Winchester Road NW in Huntsville. Classes meet for 12 weeks on Monday and Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Orientation and first day of class will be Aug. 21. Application deadline is Aug. 7.

* Whitesburg Baptist Church, Pulaski Pike campus — 3911 Pulaski Pike in Huntsville. Classes meet for 10 weeks on Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pre-GED test will be offered on Aug. 8. Orientation will be on Aug. 23, followed by classes starting on Aug. 28. Application deadline is Aug. 2.

* First Baptist Church — 600 Governors Drive in Huntsville. Classes meet for 10 weeks on Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orientation will be Aug. 31. Classes will start on Sept. 5. Application deadline is Aug. 16.

Interested women can pick up and drop off applications at First Baptist Church in Huntsville in the front office or at Heritage UMC in Madison. In addition, applications are available online at cwjc.net.

Heritage UMC’s address is 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road in Madison (driving north on County Line Road, turn west on Huntsville Brownsferry and drive about 1/4 mile to reach the church). Office hours for the corps are Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
