AHA recognizes Spillers’ service

MONTGOMERY – David Spillers was recognized recently for his service as Chairman of the Alabama Hospital Association at the association’s annual meeting.

Currently, Spillers is the Chief Executive Officer of Huntsville Hospital Health System, the third largest publicly owned hospital system in the nation. The Huntsville Hospital Health System serves more than 750,000 people in North Alabama and South Tennessee.

“David has been one of our most insightful leaders,” AHA President Dr. Donald E. Williamson said. “He is a visionary who is constantly looking for ways to improve health care for individuals served by his system.”

Before his career move in Huntsville, Spillers spent 18 years at Mission Health, a large, integrated health care system in Asheville, N.C. He originally joined that organization as the chief information officer and eventually held a variety of positions, including the positions of chief financial and chief operating officer.

Spillers began his career developing software for the health care industry after receiving a bachelor’s degree in information technology and business administration. He received his master’s of business administration degree from the University of Miami.

In addition to his board service with Alabama Hospital Association, Spillers is currently vice chair of Vizient Southeast, an association of 33 health systems in Alabama and Florida. In addition, he is on the board of directors of Wolford College in Naples, Fla.

Founded in 1921 and with headquarters in Montgomery, the Alabama Hospital Association is a statewide trade organization that assists member hospitals in effectively serving the health care needs of Alabama, through advocacy, representation, education and service.
