MADISON – Pianist Debra Saylor will be featured soloist in “Piano at Twilight,” the season’s second “Music at Messiah” concert.

“Piano at Twilight” will start at 4 p.m. on Jan. 11. Messiah Lutheran Church at 7740 U.S. 72 W. hosts the free, classical concert series. A free reception with the performer will follow the concert.

“Members of Messiah Lutheran Church are excited to offer the Music at Messiah series to anyone who believes that beautiful music plays an essential role in our lives,” publicist Dana Burton said. “We have been blessed with an acoustical setting that is ideal for chamber ensembles, soloists and choirs.”

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Saylor earned a bachelor’s degree at Clarke College and a master’s degree at the University of Iowa. Both degrees are in piano and vocal performance.

In 2000 at the Van Cliburn Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, Saylor earned third prize and best performance of a Romantic period piece for Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” which she will be perform at Messiah Lutheran. At the Cliburn competition in 2002, she received a Judges’ Discretionary Award.

On Jan. 11, Saylor’s program also will include works by Beethoven, Brahms and others.

Currently, Saylor instructs piano and voice students at Ars Nova School of the Arts in Huntsville. “Ms. Saylor loves to perform anywhere but especially as a classical pianist.

She enjoys playing and singing semi-classical music and some songs from musicals,” Burton said. Saylor also performs for parties, weddings, retirement facilities and other clubs and organizations.

“Music at Messiah is an arts event,” Burton said. “We hope this series will allow professional musicians to perform in an intimate setting that will inspire both them and the audience.”

Donations will be accepted and appreciated to support the Music at Messiah series.
