Fantasy Playhouse presents ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live!’

HUNTSVILLE – Parents and children alike will keep the beat to familiar rhythms when Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater presents “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”

The lively musical is based on the hit television cartoon, “Schoolhouse Rock,” which won the Emmy Award for its entering Saturday morning programming.

The music that “you loved growing up springs to life onstage as an energetic musical that proves learning math, science, history and grammar can be fun when your teacher wins you over with imagination and music,” spokesperson Amanda Parker said. “We guarantee the entire family will be singing along.”

Director Terrena Mann and one-half of the cast live in Madison.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live!” uses a series of short segments that feature peppy songs that teach multiplication tables, grammar rules, science principles, American history, computers facts, economics and environmentalism. (imdb.com/title/tt0069627)

Scott Ferguson, George Keating and Kyle Hall authored the book for the music. Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Kathy Mandry, George Newall and Tom Yohe wrote music and lyrics. Theatre BAM originally adapted and produced the stage show.

George Newall and Tom Yohe created the television series, based on an Idea by David McCall.

Performances will be presented on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.; Oct. 7 and 8 at 1:30 and 5 p.m.; Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.; and Oct. 14 and 15 at 1:30 and 5 p.m. in the Von Braun Center Playhouse.
