Fantasy Playhouse starts 61st season with ‘Alice in Wonderland’

MADISON COUNTY – Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy is tackling a busy schedule for its 61st season, starting with a stage play, drama classes, field trips and a talent show.

The young actors and technical assistants have been rehearsing “Alice in Wonderland” for its public shows on Feb. 18-20. This show is suitable for all ages.

This theatrical retelling of the Lewis Carroll classic has all the fun and zany characters of the original story. The show presents a group of performers who seek out Alice to provide “her turn” in Wonderland. “We invite your family to come along as we tumble down the rabbit hole,” a spokesperson said.

This production will vary from typical shows by Fantasy Playhouse by having puppetry and ASL or American Sign Language interpreters for each character.

Damson Family Fund is the Title Sponsor for “Alice in Wonderland.”

Show times for “Alice in Wonderland” will be Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., along with two shows on Feb. 19-20 at 1 and 6 p.m. Audience members should wear masks.

For tickets, visit fantasyplayhouse.org/ticket-information; then click the box with the heading “Buy Individual Tickets HERE!”

Other purchase options include calling the office at 256-539-6829 on Monday-Friday during business hours or visiting the office in person. Guests also can visit the VBC Playhouse Box Office on show weekends at one hour before each showtime; call 256-551-2335.

In other options, academy classes target all ages – from adults rehearsing musical theatre routines to three-year-olds learning the concepts of acting and storytelling with their beloved character-friends, like Elmo from “Sesame Street.”

Students will learn about singing techniques, acting and dance. The inventory of possible classes is truly huge. Check out Fantasy Playhouse’s website for a class list, age brackets and subject descriptions.

Field trips are popular with groups of children who visit Fantasy Playhouse productions at the Von Braun Playhouse or other venue. Fantasy Playhouse staff members encourage teachers to give their students the experience of live theater and join the next student matinee of “Alice in Wonderland.”

In a call for aspiring entertainers, Rocket City’s Got Talent has seen its popularity explode since its launch for local talent. This year’s talent show will be held on April 1.

Rocket City’s Got Talent will be an event that people do not want to miss. Organizers hope to see lots of guests in attendance for an evening of delicious food, live performances, the 62nd season announcement for Fantasy Playhouse and more. For more information, visit fantastyplayhouse.org/rcgt.
