Starts Friday: Haunted Kingdom to bewitch Kids Kingdom as fundraiser

MADISON – During the last two weekends in October, the Haunted Kingdom will possess the grounds of Kids Kingdom . . . for a good cause.

The spooky transformation in Dublin Park at 8324 Old Madison Pike will raise funds for “Go Build a Kingdom,” the renovation project for Kids Kingdom. In the process, children and their parents, along with teenagers and anyone interested in a good-natured scare, can enjoy an autumn outing in the ‘spirits’ of Halloween.

Haunted Kingdom will be open to the public on Oct. 23-23 and Oct. 29-30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. (to allow everyone to return home before the witching hour!). Everyone will pay $5 as a donation for admission. All proceeds will benefit Go Build a Kingdom.

“We are all very excited about how fun that Haunted Kingdom will be for our community,” Liz Brinton said. Brinton is Executive Director of Madison Visionary Partners. “(The event) is important for raising funds to support the Go Build a Kingdom project.”

Classic characters of Halloween, like (a do-no-harm version of) Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf, witches and ghosts, and a few surprises will roam the grounds. Guests are encouraged to wear a favorite costume to experience the other-worldly atmosphere.

A fall hayride in the nighttime gloom around the property of Dublin Park will entertain guests at the Haunted Kingdom. Spooky concessions will be available, and food trucks will setup onsite for tasty treats.

The scare factor for Haunted Kingdom has a 2/5 rating (with ‘5’ as totally diabolical), so the event is perfect for young ghosts and goblins. All components of the event will be outdoors. Guests will need to observe social distancing.

Residents can volunteer and enjoy behind-the-scenes hauntings. Volunteer tasks will include concession sales, cooking/baking homemade fall treats, hayride help, crowd management, event runners, setup/cleanup and creating decorations. Tour guides will masquerade in castle- or medieval-themed costumes as knights, princesses, wizards, kings, dragons, fairies and elves.
