MADISON – Huntsville Collegium Musicum will perform in the season’s second concert for “Music at Messiah.”

Messiah Lutheran Church at 7740 U.S. 72 W. in Madison hosts this concert series of classical music.

“Messiah Lutheran Church members are excited to offer this series to anyone who believes that beautiful music plays an essential role in our lives,” publicist Dana Burton said. “We have been blessed with an acoustical setting ideal for chamber ensembles, soloists and choirs.”

Huntsville Collegium Musicum will present “A Concert for All-Saints’: Tomas Luis de Victoria’s Officium Defunctorum (Requiem Mass)” on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Organist Betty Augsberger with Covenant Presbyterian Church in Huntsville will accompany on pipe organ.

Huntsville Collegium Musicum is the city’s only early music vocal ensemble, committed primarily to early choral music. The nine singers rehearse and perform without a conductor.

Sarah Meister, soprano, studied at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and teaches at the Academy for Science and Foreign Language. Gianna Gimenez, soprano, a Birmingham-Southern College graduate, is music director at Grace United Methodist Church and lives in Madison with daughter Elena.

Melanie Payne, soprano, is organist at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Erin Colwitz, alto, earned a doctorate’s degree at the University of Southern California and directs choirs at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Suzanne Bouvier, alto, is a major proponent of modern music and has performed with Birmingham Art Music Alliance. Chris Walters, tenor, is director of choirs at Randolph School.

Bryan Page, tenor, is music director at Covenant Presbyterian at part-time lecturer at UAH. Aaron Caine, baritone, is director of vocal studies at UAH. David Caine, bass, has performed in local community chorus, symphony and musical theatre shows.

Music at Messiah concerts are free. Donations to support Huntsville Collegium Musicum will be accepted, as will sponsorships for Music at Messiah.

“We hope this series will allow professional musicians to perform in an intimate setting that will inspire” performers and audience,” Burton said.
